OK, you did it – you sang your first song on ZOOMAROKE! Now it’s time to learn the finer points, plus a few important details we left out to make your first song easier…
GOT FAST INTERNET? GET BETTER SOUND FOR YOUR VOICE!
If your internet service is fast enough, we can get much better sound quality for your voice using a Zoom call instead of a regular phone call.
Use speedtest.net to check your current internet connection speed. If your upload speed is 2Mbps or faster, you will probably get much better sound using the Zoom app on your phone for singing! Here’s how:
Go back to the welcome message in the Zoom chat, and find the “Zoom Meeting ID for your phone.” On your phone, use this Meeting ID with your phone’s Zoom app to join the “Microphone Room” Zoom Meeting. Your phone will stay in the waiting room until your turn to sing.
When it’s your turn to sing, DJ Purple will admit your phone from the waiting room to the “Live” room. Click on “Call using Internet Audio” when prompted, then you will be ready to sing and sound way better than before!
WHEN YOU’RE IN THE AUDIENCE…
When you’re in the audience, and a singer is finishing their song, your biggest challenge is remembering this: ***BEFORE CHEERING FOR THE SINGER – UNMUTE YOURSELF AND WAIT FOR THEM TO JOIN AUDIO!***
When someone is singing, they can’t hear you until they finish their song and “Join Audio” on their computer. They also can’t hear you until you “Unmute” yourself.
When the singer finishes their last note, click your “Unmute” button in the bottom left corner:
…then WAIT for the singer to “Join Audio” on their computer. Watch their window for a message that says, “connected to audio”, or just wait for DJ Purple to say, “Make some noise!” Then please CHEER FOR THEIR PERFORMANCE! HOWEVER…
***DO NOT CLAP!!! INSTEAD – CHEER! WHOOP! WHOOP! WHOOP!***
Zoom interprets clapping as “background noise” and filters it out so no one can hear it except you! Instead of clapping, make “WHOOP! WHOOP!” or other loud vocal noises to show your appreciation for the singer!
MORE WAYS TO BE A GREAT AUDIENCE!
1) Pay attention! Simply watching the singer and reacting to their performance goes a long way!
2) Get fancy! Dress up! Looking out and seeing a crowd of fine, fancy people will inspire everyone to bring their A-game and make a great show!
3) Virtual Backgrounds! If your computer is capable, adding a lively background helps turn ZOOMAROKE into a real nightclub!
4) Real backgrounds! Decorate your wall, dim the lights!
5) Dancing is the best! This is Dance Karaoke after all!
ABOUT THE ZOOM TEXT “CHAT” FEATURE
If you arrive at the show in between songs, when everyone is unmuted, first make sure that you yourself are unmuted, then speak up and say hello to everyone! However, if you happen to arrive during a song when everyone is muted, use the ZOOM TEXT CHAT to say hello and be sociable!
***IMPORTANT – DJ Purple is not available on the Zoom chat. If you have a question, please speak up and ask between songs, or ask “Everyone” in the chat!
When you join the Zoom “Microphone Room” with your phone, make sure to provide the same name you’re using in the main session
This will allow DJ Purple to find your phone so you can sing!
PAUSE YOUR TWITCH STREAM WHEN NOT SINGING!
After you sing your first song, and before the next singer starts, you need to pause your Twitch stream. Otherwise you’ll hear the music doubled and out of time for all the other singers:
Go to your Twitch window, move your mouse over the lyrics window, and click the pause button in the bottom left corner:
If you get a “Spotlight” notification while singing, DO NOT JOIN AUDIO!
You may get a “Spotlight” notification while you’re singing. If so, Zoom will ask you if you want to Join Audio. ***DO NOT JOIN AUDIO!!!*** If you say yes, it will undo all the work we did to set up your sound. JUST SAY NO!
You are now ZOOMAROKE Master, Level 2!
